Coca-Cola History

1886 - Coca-Cola was invented by John S. Pemberton and the first Coca-Cola is sold at Jacob's Pharmacy, Atlanta GA
1892 - The Coca-Cola Company is incorporated
1894 - J. A. Biedenharn starts bottling Coca-Cola without a formal contract

1903 - The Coca-Cola Gum Co. is Chartered in Atlanta GA
1906 - The first bottling operations in Canada

1915 - Coca-Cola patented the Hobbleskirt (contoured) bottle
(now Coca-Cola can be identified with your eyes closed and the feel of the bottle)
1923 - The first 6 bottle package is produced by Empire Printing & Box Co., Atlanta GA

1930 - The first mechanical refrigerated coolers are offered to bottlers
1931 - The first Haddon Sundblum Santa Claus appears
1931 - The automatic fountain dispenser is developed by The Coca-Cola Compand and the Dole Valve Company

1941 - The Coca-Cola Company first used Coke in advertising
1942 - The Sprite Boy figure is created
1943 - General Eisenhower requests 10 bottling plants for overseas troops

1954 - First family size (King Size) bottle is introduced.
1955 - Initial use of cans of Coke, Confined to U.S. Military in the Far East
1955 - 10 and 12 ounce bottles are test marketed in Ohio
1959 - Test marketing of 12 ounce flat top cans in severla U.S. Cities.

1960 - The first 16 ounce bottle is test marketed.
1960 - Fanta is introduced in the U.S.
1961 - Sprite is available to bottlers
1961 - Coca-Cola introduces 12 and 16 ounce bottles (No Return)
1966 - Fresca is available to bottlers
1968 - Frozen Coca-Cola is introduced
1969 - Prototype of the first plastic, no return, contour design bottle is tested

1972 - Mr. Pibb is introduced
1975 - The Easy-Goer bottle is introduced
1977 - Coca-Cola acquires Taylor Wine
1979 - Mello Yello and Ramblin' Root Beer were introduced

1982 - Diet Coke is introduced
1983 - Caffeine-free Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and TAB were introduced
1984 - Diet Fanta was introduced
1985 - Cherry Coke, New Coke and Coca-Cola Classic were introduced
1985 - Coca-Cola became the first soft drink consumed in space aboard the space shuttle Challenger
1985 - Coca-Cola test markets Plastic Cans
1987 - Minute Maid brand soft drinks were introduced
1989 - Diet Mello Yello was introduced

1990 - World of Coca-Cola is opened in Atlanta, GA
1991 - Coca-Cola Space can is tested aboard the Russian Space Station Mir
1991 - Coke introduces a 32 sided (fluted) can
1992 - New Coke is renamed Coke II
1994 - Fruitopia was introduced
1995 - Coca-Cola completes its acquisition of Barq's Inc.
1997 - Surge and Citra are introduced.
1998 - Contour-shaped aluminum cans are test-marketed in about 5 U.S. Cities
1998 - Coca-Cola Buys Cadbury Schweppes' non-U.S. beverage business

2001 - Simply Orange and Diet Coke with Lemon is introduced
2002 - Vanilla Coke is introduced
2004 - Diet Coke with Lime and Coke C2 is introduced
